Frontier Airlines has become the latest airline to announce the installation of Starlink internet on its flights.
From 2027, the first aircraft equipped with high-speed Starlink wifi will be available to passengers on Frontier Airlines journeys.
Starlink, operated by SpaceX, is a satellite internet service that delivers fast broadband using a low Earth orbit.
Frontier Airlines, an American ultra-low-cost carrier based in Denver, Colorado, operates an all-Airbus fleet including the Airbus A320 and the Airbus A321.
According to the airline, Frontier passengers will enjoy gate-to-gate connectivity capable of HD streaming and online gaming.
Frontier and other Indigo Partners airlines, including Wizz Air and Volaris, plan to install the connection on over 1,000 aircraft.
It called the Starlink rollout a representation of “next-generation inflight connectivity, with the airlines bringing low fares, and access to reliable wifi”.
Wizz Air will be the first European ultra-low-cost carrier to offer Starlink internet on its flights.
The Budapest-based budget airline operates a fleet of 267 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft.
Starlink installation will start next year on its aircraft, with all new-generation Wizz Air aircraft expected to be equipped with Starlink regardless of route or destination.
Jimmy Dempsey, chief executive officer, Frontier Airlines, said: “We're continuing to invest in the products and services that matter most to our customers.
“Starlink transforms the onboard experience, giving customers the flexibility to work, stream, browse, and stay connected throughout their journey. Alongside the introduction of First Class seating and enhancements to our loyalty programme, it's another example of how we're evolving the travel experience while staying true to our commitment to offering the lowest fares.”
Bill Franke, managing partner of Indigo Partners, added: “Starlink will provide our portfolio airlines with reliable, high-speed connectivity, further enhancing the customer experience of flying on Wizz, Frontier, Volaris, JetSMART and Cebu.”
